AIA NATIONAL CONVENTION AND DESIGN EXPOSITION

Researching new materials and discovering unique applications is one way P&H Interiors remains on the cutting edge of interior design!

The American Institute of Architects (AIA) held their 2010 National Convention and Design Exposition “Design for the New Decade” in Miami June 10th through 12th. Vendors, Designers and Architects gathered at the Miami Convention Center for the big show. P&H Interiors’ Aeron Knutson, Assoc. AIA attended the Design Expo and met with vendors showcasing the latest and greatest in materials for new and innovative projects.

On Saturday, June 12th, the AIA finished off the annual event at the Jackie Gleason Theater with a tribute to FAIA 2010 Gold Medalist Peter Bohlin. After an exhilarating day of meeting with vendors and learning about ground-breaking uses for the newest in materials, Mr. Knutson was privileged to attend the interactive discussion with Mr. Bohlin, who explained his focus on detail and intuitive theory in “Soft Modernism” along with his sensitivity for materials and the project site.

West Coast WOW!

Another stunning model was installed by P&H Interiors in the Marbella Lakes community. The Montoro model, by GL Homes in Naples, Florida was designed in true transitional fashion with a color palette of golds, taupes, silvers, grays and rich wood tones. This beautiful 2 story home boasts a two-story foyer which, through the use of architectural detailing and creative use of moldings, mirrors and wall coverings creates the WOW factor that sets the stage for the rest of the home. Clean lined furniture, two-tone cabinetry and great space planning do not disappoint. Staged for a family that loves the arts, there’s a music-themed boy’s room, a teen fashionista’s boudoir and a pre-teen artist’s studio/bedroom. Take a good look at the amazing artwork in that bright blue room. It’s all done by the fabulous 11 year old up and coming artist, Tatiana! Taking after her very talented (and very proud!) mom, Senior Designer Julie Harris, we are delighted and honored that her signed artwork graces this home. Thanks Tati!!!

The two-story foyer is absolutely stunning!

The great room is nicely appointed and comfortable.

Look at the great lines on this dining room table and chairs.

We love the two-toned kitchen with dark wood cabinets on the bottom and light taupe on the uppers.

The molding details enhanced by tone on tone paint make the Master Bedroom a regal space.

We designed floating cabinetry and shelving to keep an open feel in the mid-level loft.

Can’t get enough of the two-story foyer! This picture was taken from the loft.

Only the hippest wall coverings will do for the fashion-minded teen.

For the boy who loves his music…

Check out the mural in his room done by Tina Black of Artistic Projects.

Last but not least a sweet bedroom fitting for the budding artist featuring Tatiana’s artwork.

We love her work!

High Stakes for a Great Cause

P&H's own (below from left to right) Pamela Dortch, Deborah Conway, Suzanne Coles, and Michele Sommers joined in the cause and the fun! One of our preferred custom home builders, SRD Building Corporation, hosted this event to benefit the Village of Hope Medical Clinic in Haiti. The venue was one of their beautiful spec homes in Royal Palm Yacht and Country Club, where a great time was had by all. From Texas Hold'em to Roulette, guests played the odds and bet big knowing it was all for a great cause!

The P&H ladies take the party onto the back covered patio.

Couldn’t pass up a picture with SRD’s Mark Wheeler.

Close to the action, Suzanne and Michele break away from the Black Jack table to smile for the camera.

Smooth as Glass

Our sophisticated blend of unique materials is one of the reasons this striking kitchen has been selected for the cover of April’s issue of Florida Home Builder magazine and has been the recipient of prestigious design awards. We especially love the use of textured glass for the island countertop.

Not only is this material a great choice for aesthetics, but it is low maintenance as well. Glass counters are scratch, heat, and stain resistant. They are non-porous and the most hygienic countertop on the market. The textured finish below the surface even masks fingerprints.

Glass counters are also earth-friendly and good for your health. It is a 100% recyclable material, is radon free, and no sealants or harsh chemicals are used in its production. To learn more, visit www.thinkglass.com.

Researching new materials and discovering unique applications is just some of the ways P&H Interiors remains on the cutting edge of interior design!

Leather Basics

In P&H's ongoing efforts to be as knowledgeable as possible in our field of expertise, our licensed designers continually participate in Continuing Education Courses. Recently a few of our designers took in a class at DCOTA (Design Center of the Americas) in Dania Beach called Leather Basics.

Here's a leather knowledge nugget we picked up:
Did you know that because cow hides are so thick they are actually horizontally separated into 3 layers? The top layer is used to for upholstery, shoes, bags, and other fine leather goods. The middle layer is where suede comes from. The lowest layer is used on lower quality goods, such as shoe lining and work gloves.

Everyone is always asking us for the best way to care for their leather furniture. According to Meryl Siegman from Cortina Leathers, the best maintenance is USE! For particularly nasty stains, she recommends a commercial grade leather upholstery cleaner and mentioned there are also cleaners on the market that are made specifically for ink removal.

P&H meets Barclay Butera

As concierge clients of Kravet Fabrics, P&H Interiors was specially invited by sales representative extraordinaire, Chris Zitelli, to attend an exclusive gathering at their DCOTA showroom featuring renowned designer Barclay Butera.

Butera, the self described "west coast answer to Ralph Lauren", was there to promote his exclusive line of fabrics for Kravet. He also showed a slide show of his work and signed copies of his book.

P&H owner Susan Connor, along with lead designers Pam Dortch, Julie Harris, and Karen Rubin, were in attendance and met both Butera, as well as the owner of Kravet- who extended Susan an invitation to visit the corporate office in New York.
